Rigid and Flexible Endoscopy
Cumming Veterinary Clinic is pleased to offer our pet families the advantages of non-surgical, minimally invasive endoscopy, which can be used for treatments as well as diagnostics.
What is Endoscopy?
Endoscopy involves the insertion of specialized, telescopic cameras into the part of the body being treated through tiny, keyhole incisions. The images are viewable on a monitor, where we can enlarge them for closer inspection. This procedure enables us to perform therapeutic treatments and diagnostic evaluations quickly and efficiently, and can eliminate the need for more invasive surgery.
Endoscopy causes less trauma to your pet’s body than traditional surgery. There is little discomfort following an endoscopic procedure and recovery time is shorter.
Routine Applications
Cumming Veterinary Clinic commonly uses endoscopy for the following routine procedures:
- Scoping the upper GI tract (stomach and small intestine)
- Retrieving foreign objects from the stomach
- Rhinoscopy (examining a pet’s nasal cavities)
- Endoscopic gastropexy (to prevent stomach rotation in dogs)
- Minimally invasive liver biopsies.
Advanced Procedures
Dr. Derek Duval has the required specialist training to perform advanced endoscopic procedures, including the following:
- Bronchoscopy (to examine the trachea and lower airways)
- Feeding tube placement
- Balloon stricture treatment (to dilate the esophagus)
Whenever applicable, we will recommend endoscopy for your pet’s procedure, and we won’t hesitate to use a specialist when needed. Please contact us if you have any questions about our endoscopy capabilities.
